It has been decided that this year we should celebrate Trillian's 50th birthday online to avoid a repeat of last year's disaster when one of the wheels fell off the cake during the parade.

He never is alone that is accompanied with noble thoughts. -- Beaumont and Fletcher, Love's Cure (1647)
Alone, adj. In bad company. -- Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary (N.B. Isn't that the best kind? -- author)
Little do men perceive what solitude is, and how far it extendeth. For a crowd is not company, and faces are but a gallery of pictures, and talk but a tinkling cymbal, where there is no love. -- Sir Francis Bacon
This is that which we call Character, — a reserved force which acts directly by presence, and without means. It is conceived of as a certain undemonstrable force, a Familiar or Genius, by whose impulses the man is guided, but whose counsels he cannot impart; which is company for him, so that such men are often solitary, or if they chance to be social, do not need society, but can entertain themselves very well alone. -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, Character
I am an introvert. I'm quite happy being an introvert, because it means I make time and space to pursue my own thoughts. This doesn't mean I shun mankind, although there are times when extraverts unknowingly get on my nerves. It just means I operate differently than an extravert. There's no manual on how to fix me, just a care and feeding guide.

Some of you may know about the difficulties of the OGTOC (Our Gifted Online Conferences), a gifted children-focused community which has had a Ning site at giftedonlineconferences.ning.com up until its imminent closure.
The news is that due to the impending removal of free services by Ning, Sally_L, the creator of OGTOC, has set up a Facebook Page, a Facebook Group and a Twitter account.
Update: I have been informed that there are a number of Twitter accounts for various states relating to Twice-exceptional learning, following the pattern of http://twitter.com/Oregon2E.
As stated before, the Ning decision to terminate free services may affect a number of networks that decide not to pay for the premium service, but I have heard that there is a retained free service for K-12 educational accounts, which educators may want to ask Ning about before moving.
Anyway, our warmest regards to Sally in the hopes that her community has a sure and certain future again soon. |
