I think you've got a very good point there regarding sharing the whole of our lives, not just talk about giftedness. My main areas of interest in life at the moment are music and self-development. Perhaps I should write an article or two?

That's an excellent idea. I'm wondering what to call the category (not that I'm separating them out yet, it will still appear in the same section).

We could do Interests now, and break it into

Creativity and the Arts
Interests and Activities

later? Or even now if you think it would be better. After all, as I said, I'm not separating them into different pages yet, so we could try it as we go.

I'm going to set your ability to submit articles now.

Thanks for the help!

By the way, I think you'll like the articles form. Not only does it have a good editor (a choice of them in fact in your main profile), you can upload images or use the existing clipart that I specially uploaded (It's all royalty-free, open license).

My "major" interests include art, handcrafts, gardening, cooking (vegetarian) wildcraft foraging, plant and fungi identification, photography, sustainable lifestyle habits, DIY, and managing web-based businesses.
Interests which sound simple enough, but in the context of giftedness can be made quite complicated! Perfectionist and existential concerns can hinder me. A series major life changes set me back for the past 18 months. I've been isolated by choice, and now realizing I dug myself into a rut. I am at the threshold of tolerating myself. For SO many reasons, it's time for a change...

Lo! I migrate to this site and behold! A timely opportunity is presented. Sharing information and reporting on progress of various projects here in my odd little world would provide an outlet, a purpose, a focus. I'm willing to participate. Perhaps delving into hands on application, but also offer relevance by disclosing that process of overcoming the tendency to self-defeat, or staying too long with the rumination stage of any projects. Could I be useful?
I know you're not too familiar with me, Icon. I started a few years back in SENG as "Laurie" and have mostly been a slacker/lurker since the changes began. I have hopes for becoming more involved and treating it as a kind of home.

That's great! Of course you can be useful. I've set your access to "author" so that you can submit articles. An extra note: The editor on the front of the site also performs well when pasting from programs like Word, if you prefer writing in that.

One of the reasons why I thought the change to the focus of the site would be good is because it occurred to me that by focusing on giftedness as an isolated aspect, it might appear to some people that we were accidentally pathologizing it in reverse. It suddenly didn't seem to me that we were spending enough time on the positive things.

Another reason, of course, is exactly what you mentioned. This site should be able to be a home, a community. Also, if we want to attract new members to help us grow, we should be showing more aspects that make them feel like moving into the neighborhood, more ways that we are all stronger together.

We're not a high IQ society; there are already many sites out there for that. There are also sites out there specifying checklists of gifted characteristics. What originally brought me to SENG and has kept me with this group is the fellowship, and I think we should not only nurture that, but show it off.
